Ibai is a doctoral student in Biomedical Engineering at the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Japan) with the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship. He has contributed to several research projects focused on the development of new sensor systems for assistive devices. As part of his doctoral studies, he is currently researching on the development of a system to analyze balance in the elderly in daily life for fall prevention. He received his licentiate degree in Industrial Engineering from University of the Basque Country (Spain) and his MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Zaragoza (Spain). He also studied Mechatronics and Product Development at Aalto University (Finland) for one year as an exchange student and similarly stayed one year at Tohoku University (Japan) researching on a piezoelectric sensor system for detecting swallowing problems. His research interests include sensing technologies, signal processing and machine learning to extract new insights about the human body.
